# Weibo Data through toolfare

Sign in once per machine; the CLI renews the sign-in itself. On a CI runner or another server,
create an API key in the toolfare console and set it as `TOOLFARE_API_KEY` instead of signing in.
Paid calls on one sign-in or key run one at a time. `--max-cost` refuses a call quoted above
that many credits (1,000 credits = $3).

## Use it when

- You want to know what’s trending in China today, straight from the Weibo hot search list.
- You are tracking public reaction to a launch, campaign or news event on Weibo.

## Look elsewhere when

- You want lifestyle notes and product reviews rather than news and public conversation. Xiaohongshu fits better.
- You need private data — messages, follower lists of an account you don’t control, or anything behind a login. Only public data is available.
- You want to post, comment or repost. These tools only read.

## Limits

- Public data only — nothing that requires being signed in to Weibo.
- A user’s posts need the numeric uid; the profile lookup takes either the uid or the custom name from the profile URL.
- There is no comments tool for Weibo posts.
- Results come a page at a time. Each call is a snapshot at the moment it runs — hot search changes through the day and there is no history of past lists.
- Pay as you go from your toolfare balance, in US dollars; there is no subscription. A call runs when your balance covers its quote.
