# Web Search through toolfare

> A ranked list of public web pages for any query, asked from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex or your own code. No search-API account or key of your own: each search is quoted before it runs and paid from one toolfare balance, next to the tools that read, crawl and answer from the pages it finds.

## Use it from your agent

Paste this into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or any agent with a shell:

> Set up https://toolfare.ai/skill.md, then use toolfare to search the web for the Postgres release notes that mention logical replication, and list the five most relevant pages

Apps without a terminal connect toolfare as an MCP server: https://toolfare.ai/docs#connect

## Use it from a script

```sh
mkdir -p ~/.local/bin
curl -fsSL 'https://toolfare.ai/toolfare/toolfare.mjs' -o ~/.local/bin/toolfare
chmod +x ~/.local/bin/toolfare
export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"
export TOOLFARE_MCP_URL='https://api.toolfare.ai/mcp'
toolfare login
```

Sign in once per machine; the CLI renews the sign-in itself. On a CI runner or another server,
create an API key in the toolfare console and set it as `TOOLFARE_API_KEY` instead of signing in.
Paid calls on one sign-in or key run one at a time. `--max-cost` refuses a call quoted above
that many credits (1,000 credits = $3).

## Tools

### Ranked pages for any query

Tool: `web_search`

Search the public web and return ranked result pages

Required parameters: query

Optional parameters: limit

Cost: From $0.021

Ask:
- Search the web for recent articles on MCP server security.
- Find the official docs page for the Stripe Checkout Sessions API.
- What are people writing about our product launch? Give me the top ten pages.
## Price

From $0.021 Quoted before each call; the final charge follows the returned usage. Pay per call from one balance.

Balances and top-ups are in US dollars. Quotes and `--max-cost` count credits: 1,000 credits = $3 ($0.003 each).

## Use it when

- Your agent needs current information that is not in its training data.
- You want a list of sources to choose from, not a finished answer.
- You need to find the right URLs before reading or crawling them.
- You are building an agent or LLM app that needs a search step it can call itself.

## Look elsewhere when

- You want one written answer with its sources cited, not a list of pages.
- You already have the URL and need the page’s text.
- You need Google’s organic results for a keyword, by location and language.

## Limits

- Public web only — nothing behind a login or paywall.
- One query per call; the number of results is set with `limit`, ten by default.
- The order is the search provider’s own ranking, not a Google position. Use Search Results for Google rankings.
- Pay as you go from your toolfare balance, in US dollars; there is no subscription. A call runs when your balance covers its quote.
