Sign in once per machine; the CLI renews the sign-in itself. On a CI runner or another server, create an API key in the toolfare console and set it as `TOOLFARE_API_KEY` instead of signing in. Paid calls on one sign-in or key run one at a time. `--max-cost` refuses a call quoted above that many credits (1,000 credits = $3).

Runs a query on Google — or Bing, YouTube, Amazon, Maps and others — and returns the page as structured data: organic results with positions, ads, knowledge panels, People Also Ask and local packs.

## Price

Quoted to your AI before the search runs, then charged per synchronous search at SerpApi’s rate. One charge per search, at the rate the provider’s billing module holds for SerpApi’s synchronous searches. No fixed price table, on purpose: the rate lives in the provider’s billing module, so a reprice needs no change here. A search that fails is never charged.

Balances and top-ups are in US dollars. Quotes and `--max-cost` count credits: 1,000 credits = $3 ($0.003 each).

## Use it when

- You need to know what actually ranks for a keyword, in position order.
- You want the results-page features — ads, People Also Ask, a knowledge panel — not just the links.
- You are checking rankings from a specific country or language.

## Look elsewhere when

- You want results by meaning rather than what Google ranks. That is a neural web search.
- You want the pages’ content rather than the results that point to them.
- You want your own site’s search data. Search Console is free and more accurate for your own site.

## Limits

- Each call is one results page for one query; checking many keywords is many searches.
- Results reflect the moment of the search and the location you asked for.
- Pay as you go from your toolfare balance, in US dollars; there is no subscription. A call runs when your balance covers its quote.
