# Jina Reader through toolfare

> Any public URL returned as clean, LLM-ready text — the lightest way to read a page when you do not need rendering options or structured extraction — answered inside ChatGPT, Claude, Codex or Cursor. No Jina account or key of your own: toolfare makes each call, quotes it first, and charges the tokens Reader reports.

Page: https://toolfare.ai/jina-reader

## Use it from your agent

Paste this into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or any agent with a shell:

> Set up https://toolfare.ai/skill.md, then use toolfare to answer: Read this page and tell me what it says.

Apps without a terminal connect toolfare as an MCP server: https://toolfare.ai/docs#connect

## Use it from a script

```sh
mkdir -p ~/.local/bin
curl -fsSL 'https://toolfare.ai/toolfare/toolfare.mjs' -o ~/.local/bin/toolfare
chmod +x ~/.local/bin/toolfare
export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"
export TOOLFARE_MCP_URL='https://api.toolfare.ai/mcp'
toolfare login
```

Sign in once per machine; the CLI renews the sign-in itself. On a CI runner or another server, create an API key in the toolfare console and set it as `TOOLFARE_API_KEY` instead of signing in. Paid calls on one sign-in or key run one at a time. `--max-cost` refuses a call quoted above that many credits (1,000 credits = $3).

## Tools

### A page as clean text

Tool: `jina_reader_read`

Fetches one URL and returns its readable text, ready for your AI to work with — nothing more, and nothing slower.

Ask:
- Read this page and tell me what it says.
- What does this competitor’s about page claim?

## Price

Quoted to your AI before the call runs, then charged on the tokens Jina Reader reports for that page. Metered from the token usage Reader returns in its own response, so a long page costs more than a short one; a response whose usage cannot be trusted is charged a one-micro floor rather than nothing. No fixed price table, on purpose: the usage comes back with the page. A call that fails is never charged.

Balances and top-ups are in US dollars. Quotes and `--max-cost` count credits: 1,000 credits = $3 ($0.003 each).

## Use it when

- You want a page’s text and nothing more.
- You are reading many pages and cost matters.

## Look elsewhere when

- You need structured fields, a whole-site crawl or browser-rendering options.
- You need an image of the page.

## Limits

- Public pages only; anything behind a login comes back as the login page.
- Text only — no screenshots and no structured extraction.
- Pay as you go from your toolfare balance, in US dollars; there is no subscription. A call runs when your balance covers its quote.
