# Instagram Data through toolfare

Sign in once per machine; the CLI renews the sign-in itself. On a CI runner or another server,
create an API key in the toolfare console and set it as `TOOLFARE_API_KEY` instead of signing in.
Paid calls on one sign-in or key run one at a time. `--max-cost` refuses a call quoted above
that many credits (1,000 credits = $3).

## Use it when

- You are vetting a creator or influencer before a partnership and want their public profile and recent content.
- You want to see what a competitor’s brand account has been posting, and in which format.
- You are building a list of accounts in a niche from a keyword.
- You want a single post’s details without opening Instagram yourself.

## Look elsewhere when

- You need private accounts, stories behind a follow, DMs or anything that needs a login. Only public data is available.
- You want the brand’s paid ads rather than its organic posts.
- You want the same account’s Threads activity.

## Limits

- Publicly available data only — private accounts and anything behind a login are out of reach.
- Posts and reels are looked up by numeric user id, not username; a profile lookup is the usual first step.
- Lists come back a page at a time (five items by default); pass the returned cursor to fetch more.
- Pay as you go from your toolfare balance, in US dollars; there is no subscription. A call runs when your balance covers its quote.
