# Deepgram through toolfare

> A recording up to an hour long — a sales call, a podcast, a video ad — turned into a transcript with speaker labels, punctuation and word timings, answered inside ChatGPT, Claude, Codex or Cursor. No Deepgram account or key of your own: toolfare transcribes each file, quotes it first, and charges by the length of the audio.

## Use it from your agent

Paste this into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or any agent with a shell:

> Set up https://toolfare.ai/skill.md, then use toolfare to answer: Transcribe this podcast episode.

Apps without a terminal connect toolfare as an MCP server: https://toolfare.ai/docs#connect

## Use it from a script

```sh
mkdir -p ~/.local/bin
curl -fsSL 'https://toolfare.ai/toolfare/toolfare.mjs' -o ~/.local/bin/toolfare
chmod +x ~/.local/bin/toolfare
export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"
export TOOLFARE_MCP_URL='https://api.toolfare.ai/mcp'
toolfare login
```

Sign in once per machine; the CLI renews the sign-in itself. On a CI runner or another server, create an API key in the toolfare console and set it as `TOOLFARE_API_KEY` instead of signing in. Paid calls on one sign-in or key run one at a time. `--max-cost` refuses a call quoted above that many credits (1,000 credits = $3).

## Tools

### A transcript, with who said what

Tool: `deepgram_transcribe`

Turns a recording at a URL into a transcript, with optional speaker labels, punctuation and per-word timings for subtitles. One call covers up to an hour of audio.

Ask:
- Transcribe this podcast episode.
- Who said what in this call recording?
- Give me subtitle timings for this video ad.

## Price

Quoted to your AI before the transcription runs, then charged by the audio duration Deepgram reports. Metered from the duration in Deepgram’s own response at its pre-recorded rate, with a small per-request floor — a long recording costs proportionally more. No fixed price table on the page, on purpose: the rate lives in the provider’s billing module. A transcription that fails is never charged.

Balances and top-ups are in US dollars. Quotes and `--max-cost` count credits: 1,000 credits = $3 ($0.003 each).

## Use it when

- You have a recording, podcast, call or video and need its words.
- You need to know who said what.
- You want subtitle timings for a video.

## Look elsewhere when

- You want to generate speech rather than read it.
- The recording is not reachable at a URL. The transcription takes a link to the media.

## Limits

- Media is passed as a URL; there is no upload through the chat.
- A recording must be an hour or shorter; anything longer has to be split into parts first.
- Cost follows duration, so an hour-long recording is priced as an hour.
- Pay as you go from your toolfare balance, in US dollars; there is no subscription. A call runs when your balance covers its quote.
