# Apify through toolfare

Sign in once per machine; the CLI renews the sign-in itself. On a CI runner or another server, create an API key in the toolfare console and set it as `TOOLFARE_API_KEY` instead of signing in. Paid calls on one sign-in or key run one at a time. `--max-cost` refuses a call quoted above that many credits (1,000 credits = $3).

## Price

Quoted to your AI before the run starts, then charged per result the run actually returns. Metered by the number of items the scraper returned, at that scraper’s own pay-per-result price — so a bigger run costs more, and reading back a finished run is free. No fixed price table on the page, on purpose: each scraper has its own rate in the provider’s billing module. A run that fails is never charged.

Balances and top-ups are in US dollars. Quotes and `--max-cost` count credits: 1,000 credits = $3 ($0.003 each).

## Use it when

- You need social content in bulk — up to a hundred videos or posts a run, not one at a time.
- You want who works at a company and when they joined.
- You have a LinkedIn profile URL and need the full profile page.

## Look elsewhere when

- You want one profile, one video or one timeline. A single social read is cheaper and faster.
- You want a normalised person record from an email. An enrichment provider is cheaper and typed.
- You need an answer quickly. A scrape run can take minutes.

## Limits

- A run can take minutes; a very large one may need its results read back afterwards.
- One run returns at most a hundred items, so a bigger set takes several runs.
- Only current employees are visible, so a company pull cannot show who already left.
- Public data only.
- Pay as you go from your toolfare balance, in US dollars; there is no subscription. A call runs when your balance covers its quote.
